But that's such a big reason why fandom even exists, or at least used to be why. It's there for fans who wanted to write things that "normal" people would judge them for. Back in the day a big chunk of that was anything gay. There's nothing wrong with being gay or simply writing gay fiction, but enough people used to find it disgusting or morally wrong that fans wrote fic for other fans and kept it among themselves so nobody in real life would know. There's nothing wrong with weird kinks and writing fiction about them either, and in my opinion nobody should judge anyone for having them as long as they don't hurt anyone. I'm not comparing being gay to being kinky, except I am when it comes to writing about it. "Normal" people think it's gross and judge you for it so you go to fandom where you won't be judged, and in both cases it's "normal" people who are wrong, not fandom.

Not sure what decade you're living in where "normal" people are against anything gay. Anti-gay people are not "normal".

As far as kinks go, there's a difference between "kinky" and "child rape-y". And it's the people who write about child rape who are wrong, not the "normal" people who are against it.

NAYRT

They clearly said "back in the day" and were talking about the past.

"And it's the people who write about child rape who are wrong, not the "normal" people who are against it."

Literally who cares if someone is writing that, though? People write about tons of stuff they have zero interest in doing IRL. Are they out touching real children? No? Then we Gucci.

+100

I'm not into underage stuff myself, I'm more on the xeno/monsterfucker/sapient-animal-bestiality spectrum. There's still zero chance of me getting inappropriate with the family dog IRL.

(I also like cannibalism and necrophilia. Not doing that IRL either, don't worry)

I don't think most normal people have a problem with Lolita, no. The people who do we don't call normal, we call them crazy book-banning conservatives.
