I don't get fans like this. Why can't you handle someone disliking something you don't? I feel the same about fans who can't handle people liking something they hate. Personal taste is personal taste.

I'm a Trek fan. I get why you would say that about the Discovery haters, because honestly, a lot of the discourse I see online from people bashing it would very much be a case of them being racist/homophobic/misogynistic. However, I have also seen discourse from people who dislike the show or some of the storylines for reasons unrelated to the fact that there is a black female lead character, many female crew members and openly LGBTQ+ characters. I think calling people out immediately without seeing their reasoning is what harms the movement and nobody's making you do that.

the thing is. there have *been* people asking, 'what are your reasons for disliking this?' and the answer is often, 'how DARE you ask me my reasons you're just looking for an excuse to make me look STUPID'.

yeah, i believe there are people who dislike this show for reasons i could respect. there are things i dislike about it myself.

but there's so much fucking aggro around, so much rage, so much shit-dumping in otherwise civil discussions, that if someone says they dislike it i automatically assume they're a complete twat and wait until they prove otherwise. (they generally don't.)

Eh. I saw some racist and homophobic kickback to the casting five years ago but since then the only criticisms I’ve seen are based on the show itself. The acting, the writing, the lighting, the editing, plotting and pacing…just so many issues (most on the smaller side) that add up to a show that didn’t deliver on what fans thought they were promised when it was first announced. It doesn’t *feel* like Trek and that’s a big deal to more Trekkies than not. It’s why the rarely disclosed numbers are so low and most conversation about it outside of Discovery-specific places is so negative.

When someone bitches about things I like it just makes me like them all the more and appreciate fellow fans. Take the yesterday secret shitting on some C-dramas. I was thinking that I have such a fine taste to like them despite those series flaws. There's also something special abot loving unpopular series. I'm an ENT fan (TOS and TNG too).
