Some people think that showing livestock doesn't count as a fandom, but I tell you that if you get a half dozen exhibitors in one room and ask them what the best sheep* is; you'll get a discussion that will put every Trek nerd to shame in terms of heated passions over meaningless pedantries.
*it is the racka, obvs

I would absolutely love to read an r/HobbyDrama post about showing livestock. There has to be some great niche drama to explore.

I know what you mean! Horse people are the exact same way. What's the best breed (Arabians, duh), what's the best discipline (competitive mounted orienteering, IMO), the eternal English saddles vs. Western saddles debate (and really, why do we have to pit two bad bitches against each other like this?), and of course, there are the intensely heated debates you can start by bringing up the subject of helmets (I'm in the "every time, every ride" camp). There's always some drama or other relating to some Big Name Fan Trainer or other. There are endless wankstorms over which training tools are acceptable and which are abusive, not to mention how much equestrian drama of the local variety that can happen in any given stable of sufficient size, and that's just scratching the surface.

Now, I don't know as much about the non-horsey portions of the greater farming & livestock fandom, but I have absolutely no problem believing that each and every sub-group of it can be every bit as passionate, opinionated and prone to pedantic wankery as the equestrian set. All this is to say that I agree with you, basically.

...Also, is it weird that this makes me miss horseback riding even more than I already do?
