I lose a lot of respect for people I follow on social media when I see them posting about whaling in Genshin Impact.
Don't get me wrong, I have occasionally put some money into the game as well, so I'm not a f2p purist but considering how much money you need to spend on average to get a character's constellation maxed out... damn.
(I don't even really care that they whale in general, it's mainly the posting/bragging about it that annoys me.)

I have never understood why people care so much about how other people choose to spend their money. If they've got the finances for it and aren't causing themselves any sort of financial harm by doing so, I think people should be able to spend their money on whatever they want. It just reeks of jealousy to me, like "how dare this person have money to spend on fun things."

It's not about having the money, it's about the bragging, though.

So are people not allowed to talk about spending money on things, then? Is it "bragging" if someone posts a picture of an expensive piece of merch they bought, or their dinner at a nice restaurant?

Unless they're going "nyah nyah I can spend more than you can," it's not bragging just to say "It took me $X but I finally got [character I wanted]!"

Spending massive amounts of money in games that have additional payment options to get stuff you want faster instead of farming it. Most often used in gatcha hames where paying is the easiest/fastest way to get limited characters.
