This reminded me that I still need to watch the other one.
Still won't ever be better than the Japanese Onmyoji movies though, old and campy as they are. Nomura Mansai is just too perfect.

See, for me it's the other way around. I cried buckets during Dream of Eternity, but the other one left me cold (except wanting to live in that house). Writing wise they're both kinda eh but Dream of Eternity has become one of my comfort movies and I'm forever sad that we'll likely never see the second one... (that they already filmed and finished. -.-)

I loved that house, too! The whole mini kingdom was adorable.

I'll have to rewatch Dream of Eternity. I did like it, but liked the setting/look of the Kun Chen version better. I didn't even know there was a sequel already made. It's a shame that Deng Lun's name is kinda mud now... at least, I'm assuming that's why it won't be airing?

Probably an additional reason buuuut the original one (and also why it was yanked out of cinemas after only 2 weeks or so) was some sort of plagiarism conviction for the... writer (I think it was the writer? Or director?) of the movie that had NOTHING to do with it but a book (? or maybe screenplay?) from 10 years or so ago.
Cause you know, instead of just scrubbing the name from the credits (if they had to do something to the movie), fuck all the other people who worked on it I guess?
There is an old, very LQ trailer floating around online, but nothing has happened in the last two years, so. ._.

Oh, whoops, I hadn't heard! The movie did feel like it needed more... and honestly, it also needed more character and friendship development between the two leads, that was one of the slightly disappointing aspects of it IIRC.
