Agree so much. I love her being cast and thanks for all the high heels, but costume is a big meh sadly.

I wanted to like this, but the shininess really got to me. It seemed cheap and a bit “cosplay BDSM”. And also the curls, which I like conceptually, but not in practice.

I hope they’ll do some tweaks to the styling if we’re lucky enough to get a second series.

It did look cheap, I agree. Very disappointing.

I agree, the styling and hair was just...not good. Not when you had people rhapsodizing about how Lucifer was the most beautiful being in existence, then you get this weird PVC/80's nightmare and grandma curls, just....no.

I really wanted to like her, but she was the one casting choice that fell flat for me. I think it was largely the shoulderpads, and the fact that whatever she was wearing was probably heavy and uncomfortable. Like everything about her styling and delivery was stiff.

The shoulder pads didn't help, that's for damn sure. There was one scene where Lucifer has this red robe on and I think they were going for luxurious smoking jacket, but... it combination with what tabaqui hilariously called "grandma curls" and the fact that the fabric didn't look luxurious nor was it styled well, it screamed "tacky house coat".

idk, those aren't so much 'renaissance curls' as they are 'older lady going back to her early 90's hair in an attempt to recapture her glory days'. Otherwise she looks like a dotting grandmother proudly showing off the cosplay her grandkids made for her.

I feel like the costumes, and to a lesser extent, the scene design for the Dreaming, are the weak links in an otherwise pretty amazing show.

But Lucifer's costumes do stand out as egregiously bad. Which is weird considering I heard they were designed by her husband, who presumably meant them to be flattering.

I wonder if "design" only means "do costume sketches for," and didn't include fabric choices or overseeing fittings.

Hell, maybe the designer(s?) for the rest of the show didn't want to waste resources on costumes that clashed with their ideas for the character, or she or her husband kept asking for changes down to the wire, or the materials budget was a $100 Joann's gift card and some thrift store curtains. Maybe the whole budget went for her awesome boots.

I could easily see sketches conveying a more regal, seductive, imposing presence and then the costume workshop ran out of time or money to do them and the actress justice, especially because Netflix tends to stiff every other department to pay their big name actors through the nose.

I thought Gwendolyn Christie did an amazing job not to be utterly overshadowed by her cheap wardrobe.

I don't normally even notice costuming, but the white satin outfit she first appeared in was terrible. SHE's great, but FFS get Lucifer some better clothes!
