I’m guessing this is specifically about the Pepperpot sketches? (i.e. when the Pythons would dress up as middle-aged women with shrill voices)

They’ve never been my favourite bits of their work. And they’ve possibly aged a bit badly.

I was thinking the same thing but... thing is, from the ones I remember, the driving humor in these sketches wasn't "ohoho there are MEN dressed as WOMEN and that in itself is hilarious" - if it were, I could see how someone might judge someone who thinks they're funny.

But my mind just leapt to the sketch with the penguin on top of the TV set, and honestly I couldn't care less if it was two women, or two men dressed as women, or two men, it was a stupidly absurd conversation and I enjoyed it. :D

Yes, same. That's one of my favourite sketches ever.

Yeah, I don’t think the humour was from the crossdressing aspect of it. It was more about making fun of a particular type of middle-aged women.

I never found that aspect particularly, even at the time, but as you say, when they leaned into the absurdity it definitely worked for me.

I’d honestly like to know specifically why OP judges people for finding it funny. And what they think the joke is.

Penguins don't come from next door; they come from the Antarctic!

"BURMA!"

"Why did you say 'Burma'?"

"I panicked."

I love that skit, plus JC nearly laughing at GC and then struggling to keep his shit together ❤

YEAH! Like... it's SO different from other bits I've seen where the joke IS just 'man in dress funny'?

As a trans person, I find the pepperpot sketches hilarious-- I might not care for anything Cleese has said lately, but I still enjoy old Python sketches, and the penguin on the telly is DELIGHTFULLY absurd. And I hate this idea of like... purity of media consumption, which more often than not punishes actual queer people for liking things.
