Because he was an asshole who thought his personal dreams were objectively the best for everyone, didn't understand others wanting different things, kept on obsessing over a girl who just wasn't into him and who had different goals, and seemed to think that just because he had feelings for her he deserved to have her regardless of her own feelings. He was fine the first couple of seasons, but he got worse and worse. And then in the final he was rewarded for being a stereotypical nice guy.
