There was a time many years ago when I was creeped out by RPF, but it was sort of everywhere in my fandom, so once I came across a premise and read the story and had something of an epiphany. The "real people" in the story are really just archetypes/tropes with a real person's name attached to it and some references here and there. I don't *think* most people who write it are actually under the impression that they are writing "this real person exactly as they are" but a character in their head who is loosely based on the few aspects they know of that real person. Unlike many authors that do this, they just don't change the name and appearance. ;)

Was kind of like when I realized that yes, wrestling fans know it's choreographed and staged.

As an RPF writer, I can say you've hit the nail on the head with "a character in their head who is loosely based on the few aspects they know of that real person". It's also not the same aspects of the person that I take for every fic - I'll cherry pick what aspects I want to use, emphasise or completely ignore based on what works for the relationship dynamics, plot and setting I'm writing.

Yeah. It's just like... every other kind of fanfic really. Figuring that out helped me get over the "wtf, creepy" thing I initially was thinking it was. I don't go out of my way to read it because there are no celebrities I have that sort of interest in, but eh. All just fandom, just one I don't go to. ;)

Like the other anon who replied to you, yes! I write RPF mostly as a means to have a personality type to work off of. I see it like I'm casting them in a movie role and I'm too lazy to create a new name for them. LOL

For example, if I were to write a Taylor Swift/Park Jimin (I don't write RPF for either of them IRL) it's because for my Non-Famous AU Enemies to Lovers story, Taylor is a high power lawyer ready to make partner (basing this character off her Reputation era) but then new hot shot in town Jimin comes on to take the new criminal case (Dope Era Jimin), and the two battle over who gets to lead the case. With their album personas it's easy to create tropes and I don't go in thinking, "This is how Taylor and Jimin are in real life."
Even a Taylor/Jimin fic where it's not AU, I can still base the personalities more on the album eras I like and play up the celebrity/pop star world to base my story around.

This is similar to way I see it. To me it's about the "character" the person presents to the public, not the actual person themselves.
