i do think some very popular metal lets the instruments do the work of melody (like I love War Pigs but it's not exactly dynamic verse by verse), and I think some of the attraction for me is it's steady rhythmic nature, but I guess I don't understand saying it's more flat/dull than electronica.....? They seem equally about letting the the bass do the work.

What electronica do you listen to, OP? It may be that the type of electronica you like can be matched to some metal that's your speed.

Also I'd like to give love to Enter Sandman. I know it's overplayed, but it's so coherent as a song. Mad props.
