What do you mean about the way it was directed?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-28 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was directed to be unsettling and traumatizing, and to echo the experiences of the characters. I only saw it once, because it did its job plenty well enough for me.

I would imagine the editing purposeful to get into the chaotic frenzied mindset of someone who is becoming more and more desperate due to their dependency on drugs?

I thought the movie was good, but overall I don't know what I was expecting because it was underwhelming (good but underwhelming)? I kind of don't get the hype around it, but I didn't watch the movie until 2020 or 2021 so maybe it's like Donnie Darko where I had to be there when the film nerds were in love with it and building up its' cult status to appreciate it more?

I hate this movie.

The first boy I kissed showed it to me the first time he invited me over to his house. We were 14 or 15 and I’d only known him for about a week. I still don’t know why he thought this was a good movie to choose.

Later on, friends would keep recommending it to me and suggesting we watch it when they heard that I liked Trainspotting. But Requiem is a totally different kind of movie. And I never want to watch it again.

Yeah, jesus, that's way too young for this movie.

I saw it when it came out and I was in my early 20s, and I don't regret seeing it, but also intend never to watch it again.

I've never actually watched this movie, nor do I even know what it's about lol.

It’s basically about people having their lives thoroughly ruined by drugs (and the subsequent poverty and crime their drug habits lead them into). Pretty grim, with a few shocking scenes.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-28 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yeah definitely not going on my to watch list then...

(Anonymous) 2022-08-29 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
heheh. Shocking.
I see what you did there.

I guess it’s supposed to remove any glamour from drugs and addiction.

They suck, so don’t do drugs other than a social drink or joint.

I am forever traumatized by this movie. A guy I dated in college had a roommate who watched it 24 hours a day on a loop. Left it running while he was in the bathroom and went to class.
