As a Canadian, so much of our pop culture is American that it isn't always as glaring to me when Americanisms are out of place, but I still think this secret is valid and a totally understandable way to feel.

It's not exactly a fandom thing, but I'm into fragrance as a hobby, and Americans almost always assume everybody else has access to all the same stuff they do. Also, most Americans don't bother to put CONUS on their sales listings, thus wasting the time of everyone who isn't from the US, who spends time browsing their listing and PMing them only to find out, "Oh, I only ship to the US, sorry." Put that info in the listing, FFS. Literally everyone else does.

This is right up there with all those tumblr posts about how everyone with a moral compass needs to "support non-corporate local and indigenous businesses", wherein 'indigenous' invariably translates to 'this one specific Native American tribe I've only heard of because I bought a pen once from their store three miles away from my home in this very specific US state and why aren't you buying from them right now you racist colonizers!?!?!?'

This couldn't be more of a first world problem if it tried.

NAYRT, but ....so what???

DA

Yeah, so are pretty much all problems ever mentioned here. It's not like someone struggling for clean water and a generator is going to be pissing about on F!S.

So? This is F!S dude. If you want to talk about the plethora of serious ways that American chauvinism manifest itself, this isn't really the best place for that.

OP - I didn't realize this Fandom Secrets thread was supposed to be consequential gripes only.
