A lot of people that I know like anime and are "fangirls" online keep it completely separate from their normal lives. Myself included. I won't even talk about it in public because of people like you. I keep it all online unless someone goes out of their way to actually start a conversation about it. Not all of us have terrible fashion sense, either. And a lot of us integrate perfectly into society.
I think you're thinking about the "rabid, brainless" fangirl.
15. I know that one of my biggest reasons is that I don't think people will like my journal. I've got a "journal" personality and a "community" personality. On my journal, I talk about my life a lot more and in communities, I obviously talk about the community topics. I would think that lots of other people would have this or similar reasons. But, the whole stalking thing is a little creepy.
