So I assume you'd also want to ban virgins from writing any smut ever? Or people of either gender writing smut from the perspective of the opposite sex.

How about murder though. I mean, you don't really know what it's really like to kill someone until you tried it right?

tbf recommending trying some butt play and recommending murdering someone are pretty drastically different scales of thing.

not in my hannibal fic

Oh!

(Anonymous) 2022-08-31 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they are. But according to people who argue this it's fine for people to write about major things you haven't done like murder, or saving the world, or being shot, because research and imagination can fill in the blanks there. But there's no way ever that someone could ever imagine what buttplay is like for someone who enjoys it, as it is such an indescribable, unparalleled experience that is completely unlike anything else. Holy butt sex, do not write of it lest you have are currently in the ER with a cucumber in your rectum, unworthy buttvirgin scum

At first glance, maybe. But it's just a hyperbole to exemplify that "you can only write about what you really experienced" is a fundamentally flawed concept.

I don't necessarily agree with the secret, but I think the number of people who read about buttplay and also have experience with it, and could therefore tell when a written as account if it doesn't match their experience of it, is way higher than the number of people who read about murder and can tell whether or not it feels accurate due to personal experience murdering someone.

But that's the thing: they would think it doesn't fit their experiences and is therefore wrong/the writer has no first hand experience when it might very well be that their experiences just aren't the same.
(The same would probably go for people who killed someone though but that's just it: Not everyone's experience is universally the same.)

I have a fair amount of experience with buttplay, and sometimes my own experiences don't match my own prior experience, because there's huge variation even with one person, much less everyone else.

I've seen people say it's unrealistic to use spit as lube. I've done that and it was fine. Sometimes you need extensive prep and sometimes you just don't.

I've seen people say it always hurts the first time (not necessarily) or that it never hurts unless you're doing something horribly wrong (sometimes it does). Just for examples

On top of that, there's the idea that not all people want to write their porn realistically. Sometimes the fantasy is the point and realism is not wanted. Which is perfectly fine!

If I see something that doesn't match my experience, all it tells me is that it doesn't match my experience. I can't actually tell if the writer has done it or not, and it shouldn't matter.
