idk, there's something very ego-fragile about all your famous friends tweeting about how religious "nice" you are, because an irrelevant poll called you the worse (out of 4) chrises. either you complained to them or they knew you couldn't handle it, and like?????? that deserved mocking.

second, while the impulse to do with this anyone people are mildly annoyed with is questionable, because of that show of presumed thin-skinnedness and all the church stuff, people then looked at who he follows on socials and it's very conservative people who uphold fairly hegemonic values, and to a lot of people that shows regressive values, which you can imagine does not go down well with segments of the internet.

and then he opens his mouth in interviews and to me does that wishy-washy bullshit evangelicals do when they want to be popular but also believe in oppressive shit where they talk around it and ugh that's worse to me standupSTANDup.gif

I think the rest of this is just people being burnt out on his specific brand of brand and yet him still popping up in stuff they might otherwise want to view, so it's a vicious cycle.

This, and also, he was the one who decided to swerve his screen persona into "dickish but irresistibly sexy alpha male". Frankly a lot of what people are reacting to is simply the fact that they don't like that screen persona and he has no one to blame but himself for that.

Was he?

How do you know that? Do you not realize how much of that persona is a creation of movie studios and PR departments, or how much of a hand people's agents have?

IDK. Given what we know about him IRL, I'm pretty comfortable in assuming that he had a significant degree of creative control in the roles he chose to take on.

Not liking someone's screen persona is no reason to constantly attack them for silly shit (like the huntingn example). It's a persona.

Garfield cat secret seems rather relevant.

People are allowed to just dislike actors, and that's 90% or 95% of what this stuff is. It's people disliking him as an actor and it's people not finding his PR, persona and image as charming as he wants them to.

Disliking him as an actor is entirely different to tens of thousands of people sending him hate on social media, and attacking him on personal things (like suggesting he doesn't love his first kid, because he referred to his second one being healthy - when that's a perfectly normal phrase to use when you've just had a child born).

Actively hating on someone because you don't like their choice of acting roles is one of the stupidest things imaginable.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-01 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's social media for you. People are stupid.

I find Pratt obnoxious and I find his religious affiliation repugnant, but you are seriously bending over backwards to make unflattering assumptions about someone with no evidence.

naw, it's a pretty reasonable assumption that the people who don't get on social to defend any of their female co-stars from actual misogyny and death threats but do defend their male co-worker for not being as liked as them did so because they thought he couldn't shake it off.

but it definitely is an assumption!
