They are to the left of the political center. Not very left at all, but still a little left.

Only because the Republicans are so far to the right. Compared to most countries, the Democrats aren't at all to the left. They're centrist neoliberals.

The Democrats are a big tent party of centrist neoliberals, progressive liberals, social democrats and a few democratic socialists.

That's a bit of a tautology without a definition of "political center" no? They're to the left of the political center if you consider only democrats and republicans (or US- defined "liberals" and "conservatives"). If you consider political issues, defined by political philosophy, they are not to the left of center. The democratic party is downright neocon with regard to foreign policy or domestic civil liberties for instance. They only seem left because the Republican are straight up fascists.

I won't deny that you could argue they were left on some political issues, but the overton window has moved.
