Comment OP here--I'm a casual Sandman fan in that I've forgotten the order events happened in the comics. I own a couple trades and four of the big hardback Absolute editions, and I've read them a few times, but not for a couple years. I like Gaiman's non-comic books okay, but the only one I've reread more than once is Good Omens, because I love Terry Pratchett.

I remember loving some of the art and being meh about some of it, but I'm more on the Charles Vess illustrated fairytale side than anything.

The writing and acting impressed the hell out of me for the most part, but if it's only the visuals you'd be interested in, I can see why you'd skip it.

The costume (and hair, heh) designs often felt boring or badly done (Lucifer's tailor sucks because they're in hell? Idk), and I could've done with more stylization or just plain weirdness in the Dreaming, but otherwise I loved it.
