Recommendations for Tourists/Portrayals of your home

(Anonymous) 2022-09-04 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Inspired by secret about not wanting to come to NYC.

What are the portrayals your city/hometown/région/etc. have? Positive or negative?

What are some recommendations you'd give to tourists coming to visit your area?

Mine is : tourists, please, do not stand in the middle of the sidewalk, Sunday strolling, on a weekday -- or at least during rush hour (AM/PM). Everybody else has somewhere to be and you're blocking the path. Please, enjoy the city, the sights, the people and the culture, just don't block the crosswalk/corners!

I'm continuously thrown by people telling me how much they enjoyed visiting Milwaukee. I can only assume they had incredibly low expectations or had no idea what to expect before coming here.

So that's my advice: if you're in the area, pop on over for a bit, just don't expect anything.

My home area is wonderful, and pictureseque, and has many hidden gems bith current and historic. Don't come here, okay. Thankfully we're a little overlooked by the tourist trail and the second home plague, so seriously, don't come here. Settlers not wanted.

Dear tourists, please do not ask what fun things there are to do here in this tiny town, there is honestly not much. We got a bowling alley, a train station, a couple buildings from the 1800s, and if you're up early enough you might get lucky and see a parade of feral cats in the morning as they walk single file up and down the street.

Yes, we're a large city, but we want to keep our small town feel. SLOW THE FUCK DOWN. The highway speed limit is 55, period.

My city has some tourist attractions but is regarded by most as pretty boring. And we're fine with that - it's not exciting to visit for more than a few days, but it's exceedingly pleasant to live here. If you don't like a lifestyle of good coffee, good food, minimal traffic and nature walks it will not be your jam
