What is this, what happened to it, and what does it have to do with Harry Potter?

OP

Heavy Rain is a game where people used to talk about how great it was, and now they hate it. Harry Potter is a book series where people used to talk about how great it was, and now they hate it. I hated Heavy Rain from the start, and I didn't like or hate Harry Potter from the start.

(For reference, the Heavy Rain dev is now best known for Detroit: Become Human.)

What's the hate with Heavy Rain about? I played it on launch and thought it was good. I also liked Detroit, Beyond Two Souls and Fahrenheit.

Personally, I felt like it ruined immersion when a cutscene stopped until you pressed a button or whatever. If I was slow to react, the characters would just wait there. There’s also more serious criticism regarding the mystery. (You need a pretty good excuse to break Knox’s seventh rule of detective fiction.)

No way anyone thought that game was good. Enjoyable because it's so bad, yes. Good? Hell no. That goes for Detroit Become Human and that EYE-dun game too.

(not OP) I had a friend who was super into Heavy Rain and they had a whole community of like-minded fans, so I have to disagree. And Detroit: Become Human was a big fandom too.

I really liked D:BH, even got the rather tedious platinum for it, but it being "good" never crossed my mind. Silly, heavy-handed, stupid, preachy, unintentionally hilarious in spots, that was my impression of the game.

I played this game in 2020 during lockdown with my roommate and it was one of the funniest experience we had together. IT WAS SO BAD. But also very enterntaining! The story made no sense and all the characters were awful but goddamn we got super invested in the end (and it was shit lol).

Also the meme of that "JASON!!!" bug is still one of the most hilarious shit I've ever seen. I almost pissed myself the first time I saw it.
