Re: TMJ

I have TMJ because a dentist dislocated my jaw once and it is damaged from that to this day. I have to eat soft foods sometimes because chewing is incredibly painful and my jaw gets so tired it just doesn't want to move anymore and locks up. Usually applying a heating pad for a while (laying it on my face as I lay on the other side, not laying on the heating pad itself) helps the sting of it go away. I've taken muscle relaxers for it in the past but they make me so drowsy and it's hard to localize the relaxer to my face so it just makes all of me a droopy mess. But babying my jaw and not moving it helps a lot. I had to train myself to stop grinding my teeth because that was setting it off big time. I've heard about mouth guards to help with this but the one I had made the pain worse so I stopped wearing it early on. There are good days and there are bad days but majority of my pain and discomfort just waned over time and now it's a lot better. I hope yours does the same.
