Mark Ruffalo is the first Bruce Banner I could take seriously. With Eric Bana and Edward Norton, I just couldn't believe that they were actually scientists.
S!B: IRL, I'm pretty passionate about the fact that all types of people can be scientists.

Mark Ruffalo is great casting. He works both as BB and a voice actor for the Hulk. I think part of this is that Bana and Norton just aren't believable as BB in general, not just as the scientist part of his character.

Yeah, Ruffalo is a great Bruce Banner. I wish the MCU would use him more/better. The character was really interesting and angsty in the first two Avengers movies, but then he seemingly just...got over it? Now he's more comic relief. That is if he's not permanently some kind of Hulk now.

Gosh, this. His first scene in the first Avengers movie alone had more depth than most of what they're putting out these days, especially when it comes to him. What happened to the "I'm sorry, that was mean" Bruce? Or the "I don't all the time get what I want" Bruce??

Edward Norton always struck me as pretty smart.

He does have a degree from Yale, though it is in history.

I've got a degree in an engineering field, and I can tell you there are some pretty unexpected people in the sciences. I mean, yeah, there are totally ones you'd expect like Dennis Nedry (Jurassic Park) or Jerry Hathaway (Real Genius), but then I knew someone like Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) in the biomedical field, Sookie St. James (Gilmore Girls) in aeronautics, Carrie White without the telekinesis (Carrie) in aeronautics, and Brian O'Conner (The Fast and the Furious) in mathematics.

Edward Norton seems smart but it's entirely a humanities kind of intelligence, not a scientist.

... humanities researchers aren't scientists now?

Speaking of which, one of my biomedics professors in uni was very much an Elle Woods type. Very renowned too. Maybe it's a pattern, lol.

Humanities people are definitely and definitively not scientists

The only Bruce Banner that matters is Bill Bixby.

He was awesome, but remember he was David Banner (because of some the most bizarre homophobia I've heard of).

(Anonymous) 2022-09-09 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Bill Bixby rocked! But I never knew why the name was changed. What homophobia was this?

ayrt

Apparently, according to Stan Lee and Lou Ferrigno, the name Bruce sounded "too gay-ish" to CBS execs.
