They were sitting next to each other, so off-kilter and way more mash-y and sudden than like...delicate and lingering.

I didn't think it was awkward, either...especially given who they are? I mean they're two middle aged dudes that repressed the hell out of this shit and Stede is uptight as a person...so given that, I'd say it's realistic.

I came down here to say that it WAS awkward, and it was right to be so. At the very least, Stede has spent his whole life thinking he was straight AND he did not have a passionate or even affectionate relationship with his wife. His first kiss with a man is not going to be perfect.

That kiss was performed with so much meaning, and just the mere idea that I can say with 99% certainty that they're going to kiss again is crazy to me. The cute, apprehensive first kiss happened, but neither character was really secure enough in the relationship yet to push further than that. Season 2 will probably develop past that.
