Agreed, OP. That's one of the reasons it's been wearing thin for me. Like they want the big epic high stakes, but because the tone remains quippy and cheerful, it reads as really fake. I remember comparing MCU and DCU when the Avengers came out and just thinking that Avengers did so much better in making you feel the weight of a city-destroying event and literally one secondary character's death, versus DCU movies levelling shit all over the place and being grimdark but never caring about anyone's emotional life beyond the leads. But they've become a victim of their own success.
