And weirdly, the news made me tear up. I don't have a horse in the race, am not British...but it made me damn sad.

My American friend told me she did the same thing and she was really surprised how hard it hit her. I’m her case I think part of it is that she has some British friends (I’m half & half). But I think for most of the world it’s that QEII was a stabilising and steadfast presence in the world for a long time. And in the last few years especially we’ve all witnessed so many major events that they’re hitting many of us harder. We’re truly passing out of an era and into the unknown.
