IMO the problem is that there's not really any underlying creative or thematic unity. The process of making MCU films is simply to, at any given moment, press the button that will most affect the audience at that precise moment. So internal consistency doesn't matter compared to emotional effect. People want to see sadness, and so MCU gives them sadness; people want to see quippiness and light humor, so MCU gives them quippiness and light humor. The underlying story is less important.

And in fairness to the MCU, it must be said, this approach has been a roaring success. In fact, I would argue that the MCU - Disney filmmaking empire over the last 15 years is basically the best that Hollywood has ever done in terms of giving filmgoing audiences what they really want and making movies that people want to see. I don't like it personally but it is genuinely satisfying the customers and that can't really be denied.
