I have an idea for a book that I think would sell very well to a certain audience. I can write it but it would require a ton of illustrations. How does finding an artist for that kind of stuff work?

Depends how much you're willing to pay.
You are willing to pay are you? I'm not trying to be mean, just checking because a lot of the people who say "I have this great idea for a book, where do I find someone to illustrate it all" tend to be the "for exposure" or "well you'll get paid if it sells, of course" type and artists rightfully ...don't appreciated that.

Anyway, I'd say reddit, probably?

This is a good point. Figure out what your budget is, OP, and keep in mind that it might get complicated because of intellectual property issues.

OH yeah, I plan on paying. But I am going to look at traditional publication. I just didn't know if you have to have illustrations done before you submit your draft.

If you're planning to self-publish, then finding a good illustrator might be a challenge. I don't know if DeviantArt is still a going concern. Art Station might be a place to look, or just general places where artists post their portfolios.

But if you're planning to go with traditional publishing, then don't bother. Your publisher will find and choose the artist, not you.
