First of all, I, personally don't think there's a right or wrong way to do fandom. If I was going by your measure, then I'm doing fandom all wrong. You can't help that you get hyper fixated on a fandom or what have you. Not anymore than I can help jumping and returning and jumping into new fandoms as the interest rises. And my ships? There's only one! Me/MC (multiple MCs because it depends on my moods!). I'm also just someone who devours fic, occasionally comments, and rarely posts things anymore. And don't even get me started on fandoms where I've never even watched the source material and all I do is read fic! Am I doing it wrong? I'm enjoying the fuck out of it! I don't even think the question of doing it right or wrong comes to mind. At most, I might wonder if I should get more involved -- make some fandom friends. But it never really happens, and I hesitate to get too involved with anyone. I'm having a good time as it is. Are you having a good time, OP?

Again, by your measure, who deserves to be fandom? I've always seen and experienced fandom as a fun place to be -- if I'm not having fun here then I guess it's time to move on. People go into fandom and enjoy it all differently - some like to write meta, some like to write ship manifestos, some like to make icons, whatever!.
What's wrong with any of that? What makes the way you enjoy it any better than the way I enjoy it? Or someone else doing it right or wrong? I'm just curious as to what you consider right or wrong way of doing fandom and why/who/or what set these standards for you. I don't think you're pathetic, and I hope you ease off being so harsh on yourself and enjoy what you're into. Maybe work on letting go so you can leave the toxic spaces when it's becoming an issue, but aside from that, OP, isn't all of this for enjoyment?

I clearly got all in my feelings, OP, so I hope it doesn't come off as yelling or preach etc. Just got very passionate about it. Basically what everyone above me is saying.
