Aww, OP, I just wanna give you a hug. There's no right or wrong way to do fandom IMO. I have a ship that I've been obsessed with for nearly three years now. Everyone else seems to have moved on, but the ship brings me comfort, so I keep writing fic about them. I won't lie, sometimes I wish I could do what you're describing so I could make fandom friends, but I'm just not wired that way and it's okay. I'm happy in my little corner with my ship.
