OP/anyone, examples please

I'm trying to keep my Dean girl googles off (and realizing since I watched SPN when I was a teen and fell for Dean, he could do no wrong in my eyes) -- when did these things happen? I fell off the boat probably around S7 and popped in here and there during the Leviathan arc, saw when Lisa left him (rightfully so, always respected her for doing that). And then pulled up for the last episode.

What am I missing? I think I constantly overlooked his faults. He definitely did have "Dean knows best, do what I say" energy, but I always felt like that came from his older sibling looking after his brother/always being the protector -- so it came off kinda strong some times.

SA

Which is to say, his controlling energy/attitude always came off as an imperfect way of him showing that he cared -- this is the only way he knew how to show affection and protect someone. It's less I'm trying to control you and be "all alpha" (which i think at some point was made fun of and he cooled it with that eyeroll worhgty nonsense) and more this is how I know I can show you I care about you. Again, the imperfect ways imperfect people show love. It's not an excuse, I just always kind of saw it that way. There were definitely times where it was a pissing match, sure. But I always felt for the most part it was a guy trying not to be left alone and trying so show the people in his life he cared about them through actions.
