I almost completely agree and I’m sorry that you’re just going to get lots and lots of quote comments on this.

It’s especially bad with Monty Python. I can’t watch their most quotes movies or sketches anymore because it’s like I’m not hearing the jokes, just a sad echo of endlessly repeated memes.

Eh I agree too. Referential humor is the most boring form of humor to me. 99% of the time it boils down to someone going "remember that other person's joke that was funny?" and doing/saying that is not, in itself, funny or clever at all.

On the other hand, it's largely ignorable, and not worthy of making a secret just to hate on it.
