I have heard some people say good things about it, but my experience was very much not good. However, it was also while I was much younger and the first time I'd ever had a credit card, so it's quite possible that I just handled things very stupidly, so... if someone has better experience with them more recently their take probably is better than mine.

OP

My take from the links above is that it works okay as long as you make the monthly payments and pay off on time. The issue is if you miss a payment or haven't fully paid off because then interest kicks in, and it is high.

Personally, I'm not going to have an issue with the monthly payments. I just can't put the medical bill on my credit card right now due to some stupid purchases, surprise medical bills, and other things leaving my card almost maxed out. It is going to take me 2 paychecks to pay it off fully.

Yeah, I looked at the links above and... I guess there was a time period I was supposed to pay it off and I wasn't aware of that? Because I made at least the minimum payment every month, threw in what extra I could, but the amount left kept getting higher and higher (even though I did pay on time every month, apparently the high interest kicked in somewhere). Then they suddenly stopped sending me bills (this was before people were banking/paying bills online for the most part), so I thought "oh they realized the extra I threw in actually paid it all off I guess?"

Couple years later, debt collectors started constantly hounding me for thousands of dollars and my credit score was so crap I couldn't do anything like rent an apartment for a few years once I had a job again.

But yeah, lots of people do seem to be saying it's at least more legitimate than those payday loan places, as long as you follow instructions to the letter.

If they give you zero or very low interest so long as you pay on time, and you know you can always pay on time (or early), and maybe even more than the minimum due, it sounds like a perfectly fine thing to do.

OR - depending on your credit you could call your c.card company and tell them about your issue, and see if they will give you more credit on your card. If you're an old, always-on-time customer, sometimes they will do that.

Good luck!
