The fact that Sailor Moon is in the background of a secret about a Shonen is unreasonably cracking me up. I assume this was a comment secret; if not (of if this was intentional), A++ image choice.

On topic, I'm not even sure what even counts as shonen unless it's published in Shonen Jump, ngl. The one series I follow that I know is shonen I have followed for almost 20 years though and it's my favourite piece of media of all time, so saying I'm hooked for life sounds absolutely right.

Secret maker here...

No, it wasn't a comment secret. Or at least, not one that was left in any of my threads, unless memory fails me!

20 years, so DBZ or One Piece. Everything Dragonball is the grandfather of shounen but One Piece...ehh, it is, but it also isn't. Then again, what does it have in common with YuYu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh, and that volleyball sports manga? I don't think Shounen Jump even knows what shounen is anymore.

(if it's One Piece then A+ best choice nonny, I raise my glass of rum to good pirate taste)

It is One Piece! Cheers, nonny. Always nice to find another fan.

Sailor Moon is Shoujo.

To whoever uploaded the secret, why post an abridged version of a comment that was made weeks ago in a non-secret making thread?

Also yeah, there's multiple characters in the pic that aren't Shonen.

...Yeah, everyone pointing out the shoujo characters in the secret background, hahaha. Oh well, I assume this was just an image that came up when OP searched for some kind of anime collage.

As to the actual secret... I really sort of agree. So much of it is SO DUMB but I still enjoy watching it. I think it pushes the same buttons as a lot of "big dumb action movies" while also, uh, featuring "very close male friendships", for those who enjoy that sort of thing.

Like the one I watched most recently, I can objectively say it isn't exactly a stunning brilliant work of art, and they really could have stood to do more with the action sequences than just special attack with long animation one after another... but I liked the characters and there were a lot of good tropes in there, so now I have to go look up the manga to see how it ends. :D

tbh I mostly watch because I enjoy tournament arcs. There's some shoujo shows with tournament arcs too but shonen are more likely to have them in general.

I tournament arc I really liked was the one in Nanbaka, also because it was a big reveal for an aspect of one of the characters. Also because it's somewhat-juvenile nature of writing makes me feel like I'm twelve again, which always makes me happy.

I mean, a LOT of manga I enjoy overall is for the funsies of it because of how over-the-top or melodramatic it can be.
This isn't to say that there isn't any good quality manga out there (there are definitely some works of art & literature out there in manga), but some times I like the ones where I enjoy the escapism and art work of the stories and characters. Hell Naruto has a crap storyline; but I adore the characters and their backstories so much that its still one of those series I'll either reread or rewatch once in a while.

Totally agree with you OP, alot of shounen I have seen has been pretty trash, but I will defend Code Geass until the day I die.
