I really disliked that, too. I've been told that's normal for child characters in anime, and I don't watch much anime so I wouldn't know... but damn, that's annoying.

That's normal for anime in general, not just kids. A character with an outgoing or aggressive personality will tend to have those mannerisms. It's just the medium.
