So she acted like... An 11-year-old kid who was forced to move away from all of her friends and everything she knew?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
She even acted in shame when the parents started to eat the food without permission, like any kid would when they see their parents doing something that they know is wrong. The shame!

I don’t think the complaint was that it was unrealistic, just unpleasant.

+ 1 for reading comprehension. It's so annoying when person A says they don't like something about a character or piece of media and person B says, "BUT IT'S REALISTIC!!!!!" as if that means anything. Realistic things can be annoying, too.

NAYRT - This! Like 90% of what I didn't like about Stranger Things after S1, for example, could be loosely chalked up to, "Why do the writers have to be realistic about the way people and relationships are? Can't we just have some idealized cinnamon rolls being perfect together while doing battle with the darkness??"

(Anonymous) 2022-09-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Then I hope they don't praise anything with unrealistic kids lmao

Yeah, I get the feeling that a lot of people only like child characters when they don't actually act like children, which sort of defeats the entire point of having a character who is a child in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-18 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Precisely. When I was ten my family moved several states away and I did a ton of screaming, falling down and waving my arms around like Cornholio. OH WAIT NO I DIDN'T. WTF kind of 11 year olds do you know?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I moved three times in the fifth grade and didn’t do this once.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-18 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Your parents probably beat your ass. Sorry about that.

I knew 11 year olds who didn't move a lot so saw their lives they knew being uprooted and felt it was unfair to them because they literally knew nothing else. Sorry your empathy meter's broken.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-18 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Er, no? Because not every 11 year old requires regular beatings in order to not scream and run around like Cornholio? Have you... met actual human children or am I talking to an alien?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
She didn't run around screaming and falling down because she was forced to move. She did it because she was seeing a bunch of terrifying supernatural happenings after watching her parents get turned into pigs in a creepy abandoned fair.

... and it's still obnoxious and irritating, even if it's 100% realistic.
