I used to be a gatekeeper too. Somewhere in the 2010s I realized what an asshole move it is.

NGL though, I get the irrational urge to gatekeep My Chemical Romance purely due to the fact that I had a friend who dragged MCR during the height of their popularity who years later I caught up with them and they became a fan of MCR. Going off about "I'm so excited for their reunion!" Really threw me off. And I got super angry and the gatekeepy feelings resurfaced when they rambled about a pop star they adore who is a big MCR fan.
I stopped corresponding with that friend shortly thereafter because I didn't want to be a petty bitch.

Old gatekeeping feelings are hard to kill.
