So fucked up.

Ehh. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with using sex workers. But I haven't looked up the story to know if there's something worse about it.

I don't think it's necessarily bad, either. But China is notoriously conservative about how actors should maintain the public appearance of being beyond reproach. Another actor named Xu Kaicheng has recently gotten into trouble because he cheated on his girlfriend, refused to go public with their relationship and because his agency wouldn't allow it, then confessed to his girlfriend who posted the whole exchange to social media. This was mostly because another actress was accused of being the Other Woman (which would have serious repercussions for her too if it had been true) and denied it, so his girlfriend outed him as a cheater. It's... complicated.

In theory, no. In practice, yes.

Prostitution and solicitation is illegal in China. It's not a *harsh* punishment for a run of the mill person (15 days of jail and a fine), but for a celebrity who built his celebrity idol persona on law abiding/role model/good looks...this cancel his endorsement and future roles.

I'd be surprised if it were true re: Wang Yibo, just because his agency seems to be keeping SUCH a tight hold on his career... protecting the golden goose, I guess! I'm really curious if it's him making his acting choices, or if it's his agency guiding him to roles that are more... what's the word... government-friendly? Socially conservative?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-25 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect his agency is at least screening his offers.

At minimum, yeah. I'd love to see him do another historical, personally. The drug cop one and the Chinese Top Gun one just look like it might be a little nationalist for my taste.

Since you seem to be aware of what's going on when it comes to Chinese drama, are we getting the 2ha live action anytime soon?

What about season 2 of the Scum Villain donghua?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-26 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, I only know bits and pieces of gossip picked up from various Youtubers, I'm not an expert! But I'm sure someone out there keeps closer tabs on those things than I do...

DA Latest official update on 2ha says November.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-26 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I mean, would be nice but at this point, I don't really want it to come out anymore. They probably had to cut and censor it to a point where it's unrecognizable.

Isn't Xiao Zhan still cancelled?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-27 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
He *absolutely* is cancelled by large parts of cfandom.

He absolutely is not cancelled by those still fanning him. And definitely still getting roles and endorsements. I saw his face on a Gucci ad in a California mall the other day.

On a personal note, I dislike him intensely and what his team and his fans did to cfandom.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-27 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's more sickening what cfandom did to him, really. Cfandom is more toxic than a nuclear blast zone.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-27 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You and I have to disagree on the alleged "bullying" by cfandom when his team has a direct hand(and money) in organizing and orienting his fans to attack/defend his idol persona.

Agree that large parts of cfandom is a nuclear blastzone. The part of cfandom that dislike him is mostly the part that write and read fics (often using AO3). They ruined the sandpit.

Of course, if you're part of purity culture, completely understand why you think this is a good thing.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-27 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not that involved in it all, just know that the people who hate him were in parts pretty vile, also towards his fans and the whole thing looked a lot like an orchestrated smear campaign plus plenty of usage of water armies on both sides.
