Really sucks to see how bad modern fandom spaces have gotten. I feel like things like this might play into why I like sticking to smaller fandoms, and even then you gotta deal with some bullshit like this.

And it's sad that even choosing a "I don't really care" stance on the drama gets you swamped with hate. It's not all that surprising, but it's still sad.

I blame a lot of it on modern social media. Now people are constantly being thrown together and not given any of their own space to form opinions and express themselves. It's like throwing a bunch of random people in a room for a week and expecting them to get along. Modern social media has no sense of community.

NAYRT I think that's dead on really.

OP

yeah, I understand that this is it. if it was on liveJournal, for example, these people could keep to their own communities and avoid each other.
though I must argue that even now, teens/antis on twitter have block and mute options, they can easily block every and any user they find bad or even sus, and yet they choose to scream INCEST DNI every time they post fluff art and fic instead??? I don't get it.

It's because we're taught that being neutral about anything is equal to supporting the "bad" thing. It conflates neutrality towards important real-life matters with simply being tolerant of the things other people like in fiction. Blocking someone is essentially the same as ignoring a real life crime, according to these people.

We're also taught that people should cater to children and teens online, so any sexual or otherwise mature content that we come across is seen as a personal attack or some sort of grooming attempt.

You can't even make a general statement of "Don't suicide bait" or even more general "Be respectful of other fans" without antis accusing you of dogwhistling. Antis really be put there saying those sentences literally mean the same thing as "Pedophilia is good actually."
