People also need to understand that politics and personal character are very closely intertwined with one another. The policies that politicians make aren't based completely on logical research and historical evidence; they are also effected by simple emotions. Politicians are human beings too, and human beings are flawed, emotional creatures.

There is good and bad in every single political ideology, whether left or right. Acknowledging the flaws of your belief doesn't make your belief 100% bad or make you look stupid; it's simply part of the process of learning.
