So I was talking to a fandom friend about a specific fic and she mentioned having masturbated to it, and I was a bit surprised? I mean, I've read a bunch of comments about that, but I always thought it was a figure of speech/people exaggerating, not that they actually do it.

Have you guys done/heard of people actually doing it?

Yes? PWP fic anyway. I don't see that as any different than masturbating to porn (which I've also done). If I'm turned on, why not?

Sorry if I'm dumb, but I find this interesting. Do you do it while sitting at a computer? Or read it on your phone? Porn makes sense to me because you don't have to actively do anything to see it, but reading fic (or, I guess, published erotica would have the same issue) just seems tricky logistically because you have to scroll/turn pages.

I use my computer on my bed. I can use one hand to scroll, other hand to...

I only do it with PWPs, which are generally 1 chapter, so no page turning.

DA from downthread: I read on my tablet and hold it one handed, just using that thumb to scroll. It probably sounds awkward but I read non smut that way and I’ve been doing that for probably ten years.

This is interesting to *me* because... do you not read fic in bed? In fact I haven't been "sitting at a computer" for years, not since I bought a laptop in college.

I do read fic in bed, but I hold my tablet with one hand and scroll with the other, so I don't have a free hand lol. But I've seen other people in this thread say they only need one hand to read fic on a device, so that makes sense.

Yes, but at most I'll read a good passage and then stop reading to masturbate while thinking about what I just read. At least I envision scenes from fics I like when I'm not reading them. I always thought "typing with one hand" if it's your own fic, or "scrolling with one hand below the desk" were hyperbolic statements because neither of those things are cognitively possible for me. But maybe I'm just not as coordinated as some people.

I very, very rarely masturbate to a fic exactly as it's written. However, sometimes I'll take smut that's already hot, copy it to a Word document, and add a lot more of my own filthy embellishments to it. Then I'll save it to a private porn folder and wank to it when I'm feeling particularly in the mood.

Often, I can get off from grinding on my desk chair, which is ideal since it leaves my hands free to scroll if needed, lol. This is more of a "special me time" activity though; it's not something I do daily or even weekly.

Not really. I get aroused or can use some fantasies for later. But I just enjoy reading smut, it's fun.
