Unless something major has happened in the last 5 minutes, none of the points I've made above have changed.

The reality is that the political conditions that allowed for the creation of the NHS are almost entirely a thing of the past, that the UK as a country is now primarily governed by racist tabloid editors, and that your ruling political class is in the process of maniacally crashing the entire country into the rocks economically to strip as much wealth and economic well-being out of people as they can.

it's true that you couldn't create the nhs today (i love it, most of my family are in care work, my mum's a nurse, etc, but an ever-ageing population means it's utterly fucked unless we shove it all the money it can eat), but fortunately we already did and despite the doom-mongers (including myself) it's not going away any time soon

the uk's biggest mess is that our economy is entirely built on ever spiralling house prices, and no government that does anything to address that will remain in government for very long

Ah, yes, because the media has no influence at all in the US.

Never said that wasn't true. Unfortunately for you, despite the pretty bad state of our country we still have everything I listed. *Shrugs* Plus it was only one election ago that your government was also a shitshow.

Yeah our media is fucked, but then so is yours so eh.

Political media is more fucked in the UK than in the US, and the fucked parts of the media are way more influential in the UK than in the US

I mean... not really. The only thing is that the US has a much higher population and it's more difficult to manipulate such a high number of people but Fox News and the likes had a huge part in pushing Trump so...

Genuinely, right-wing media is distinct from the mainstream media in the US in a way that it is not in the UK. Murdoch media is both substantially larger and more influential in the UK than it is in the US. In the US, it's essentially a cult that has very devoted adherents and effectively no reach outside of that. In the UK, it sets the agenda and the tempo for media as a whole, and the liberal and centrist papers are at best a muted counterpoint. Right-wing media harassment and hate campaigns are tacitly accepted or encouraged by major political actors across the political spectrum.
