I do this for artwork too, usually original stuff, too. Those characters and the stories they belong to have fantasy elements, plenty of leeway in terms of historical accuracy (as I'm the one who sets the timeline) or it's just fantasy vaguely related to existing cultures, if any, plus it's original characters so it's not like anyone other than me cares about them but I still spend 70% of my time creating the artwork on research.
