I love this show but agree. I get that they want to create a bit of tension to make it seem like there are stakes. It's why they do the whole "show the family an empty shell of a car and it's shocking!" segment, which I also can't stand even though I know why it's there!

I actually don't mind the schmaltz most of the time, especially when it's someone who was long term sick or injured. I dread the ones where they mention in the credits that the person who owned the car passed away after filming, and once or twice that has even happened DURING. Although, and I feel horrible saying this, in those rare cases I feel like they dial back the cheese as it becomes a case of just finishing the job for the family while being sensitive that someone has just died.
