I hadn't thought about this show in years! And now I remember it's when I first had a crush on Robert Downey Jr.

Oh, my god, yes, this. I wanted Ally and Larry to be endgame (no pun jokes intended) so badly. I tried watching this arc a few years ago and didn't get through it...the bit about Larry missing his son just tore my heart out.

IIRC, at the end, Larry said that he had tell Ally goodbye because he "couldn't promise" that he "wouldn't screw up again." It was kind of like they were just humiliating RDJ for messing up that opportunity.

I mean, the actor just got arrested and was under investigation for further drug possession and ended up serving a jail sentence. He very much did screw up yet another chance, and I can't blame the rest of the people on the show for being upset and angry about it.

I watched parts of season one (maybe even a few seasons after?) but I recall so little of the show. I might rewatch this show...tempting me.

I'm pretty sure I stalled in my rewatch somewhere shortly before RDJ's character was introduced, and whenever I remember that he was on the show I get tempted to return to my rewatch (like ten years after I stalled out, lol). From what I remember reading, he and Ally were supposed to be endgame. But then RDJ imploded, and they had to write him out.

I don't blame RDJ for being an addict and a mess, but I also don't blame the show for writing him out. It really is too bad that plotline got derailed with so little warning, though, because from what I've seen it seems like the actors had great chemistry and it was a really good plotline.

Urgh, they were really good. An awful instance of real life writing the plot.
