Re: What remakes did you like better than the original?

To Be or Not To Be
the Peter Jackson King Kong
the musical Little Shop of Horrors
Nightmare Alley
the women Ghostbusters :P
I liked the movie version of LOTR better than the books
the Maltese Falcon everybody knows with Humphrey Bogart was actually a remake, there were TWO previous versions which most people don't even know about. I saw them both and they were awful whereas the classic Maltese Falcon is one of my favorite movies ever.

I want to see the original Nightmare Alley (the book is great); I suspect it is somewhat hamstrung by the Hays Code.

Similarly, I'd like to see the other versions of The Maltese Falcon, but the fact that most people have never heard of them at *all* is very telling.

I suppose for remakes I like *better* than the original (as opposed to "as much or nearly as much") the Hammer Dracula is the first one comes to mind.

Oh man Nightmare Alley... YEAH. It was done SO right. And that's no slight on the original adaptation, it was just made with a real love and reverence and a desire to build on what came before and do it justice, and it DID.

(also yesss Little Shop of Horrors)
