Re: Infestation....
I actually woke up in the night a couple years ago, with something biting the *fuck* out of me. Got out of bed, turned on the light, and found this little bug in the bed, doing this weird, spinny dance or something. I killed it, and had horrific, itchy bites all down my back. I'm pretty sure it was a bedbug, but i never found another, and never had any more bites.
Fucking weird.
I dunno what the exterminator is doing. Staff is washing everything in hot water and bleach, and wiping the room down. Dunno if the mattress will be okay - they've got covers, but what if the bugs got inside it? Who knows. Totally gross.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)As long as the mattress covers are qualified to protect against beg bugs, then they should be fine, and in the event that any of the mattress covers weren't properly closed, all you have to do is seal them now, and any bed bugs that may have found their way inside will be trapped inside and eventually die there. Which I know is still pretty squicky, but I mean, as long as they can't get to their food source they're really no worse than any other tiny little bug.
The fact that you felt the bite of that bug that was biting you makes it very unlikely to've been a bed bug, as bed bugs bites are generally undetectable while they're happening, particularly as they inject an anesthetic with their bite. I can see why you'd think bed bug, though, given it was in your bed and the bites were itchy.
I supposed it's possible for someone to have an adverse reaction to the anesthetic crap they inject or something like that, though. I'm definitely not a bed bug expert!
Re: Infestation....
It sure *looked* like a bed bug - who knows! I'd never got a bit from anything that hurt that bad or itched that bad afterward. They were all in a line down my back/over my hip. So awful.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-05 02:44 am (UTC)(link)I should probably mention, though, that in a lab setting bed bugs were found to survive for up to 400 days without food. So if any of the mattresses weren't adequately protected and you choose to go the route of sealing them inside of bedbug safe protectors after the fact, be sure to keep those babies sealed for a WHILE. :/
