Thanks for the warning, OP. Sounds like I'd hate it too.

I've only seen the first season (is the second out already? I lost track), so maybe this will change later on: she doesn't strike me as autistic, more like someone severely emotionally damaged and ground down by an abuser. The way I understood it the need for order and control seems to have developed as a defense against Kevin rather than something intrinsic.

I'm with you on the personal hell aspect. I think it's a phenomenal show but man, I can only watch it in small batches. The oppressive atmosphere makes my skin crawl. Annie Murphy plays both the sitcom and the drama scene amazingly.

She doesn't strike me as autistic either, just as an actual adult (at least relatively) with actual goals and reasonable expectations of the people around her.

I agree that this how it started out but I think by the time the show starts her goals and expectations have warped from something she just wants to achieve to something she clings to as a coping mechanisms against the shitty reality she lives in.

A lot of behaviours that many people think of as 'autistic' are actually the same behaviours that you see from long-term abuse and trauma. Because, well, growing up autistic.

I had to stop watching it a little over halfway through because it made my anxiety and blood pressure spike. It's a very well-done show and I think the comedy/drama aspect is great, but I just couldn't.

I lasted one episode. Everything else I know is from checking on TV Tropes to see how bad things got. For comparison, I managed a couple episodes of Jessica Jones.

I lasted maybe 1/2 a show, OP. It's well done, but he really can fuck himself.
