It isn't like Diana was particularly faithful either, shagging her way through half the household cavalry.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Especially when you throw in that he probably would have married Camilla to start with if it hadn't been for some outdated rules about not marrying a divorcee. The whole situation was just shite.

Came here to say this.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say I ship it, but I entirely agree with the rest of this secret.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always thought the hate for Camilla was unfair, particularly because so much of it was about her appearance. She and Charles should've obviously gotten married in the first place back when they were young, but the royal family was too conservative and Charles not brave enough to tell them to gtfo.

this!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's very clear that he's always been in love with her and basically got forced into a marriage he didn't want.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
If they had met when he was half a dozen years older maybe things would have been different. I feel like when they initially met he was too young to realize he was making a terrible mistake letter her go.

I think hating on complete strangers for having affairs is always completely stupid.

(Feeling personally judgmental, whatever, that's not a reaction you can control - but hating on them is dumbass.)

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
For God's Sake it's been like 30 years, too. It seems weird for all these people who don't know them to still be angry about something it seems like his own family is over being mad about.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously! I'll never get why so many people get so mad about total strangers committing adultery with other total strangers. I figure they must have issues.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I also really side-eye all the people playing the Madonna/Whore game when it comes to Camilla and Diana. It's so weird.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly the whole situation was such a shit-show for all three of them, Diana obviously suffered the worst out of them, but the whole horrible situation could have been avoided if Charles had been able to marry the actual woman he was in love with and Diana would probably still be alive.

But yeah it's been 30 years, people really need to get over it especially when it gets into the whole 'good wife/whore' dichotomy. :/

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the whole situation could have been avoided if Charles had any balls to start out with, but they were inbred out of him.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't ship it at all but I respect the love they have for each other. Fuck Charles though. He's such a piece of shit.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I can’t believe people still aren’t over this.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like Camila but I admit that Charles was the one who did the whole thing. Just like any other fuckboy

I mean...I'm a little annoyed at the counter narratives that are like..."charles should have been allowed to marry who he wanted!!!" when Camilla wasn't actually keen on marrying either one of her bfs at the time. And I feel wildly sorry for her because her parents basically announced her marriage to her Parker Bowels before they'd told either of them they were getting married. Those two were just having fun fucking around. And then he fucked several of her friends. God he was awful.

Anyway, the cheating doesn't really bother me because like....lol if that just isn't upper class culture. The cheating while playing in Diana's face bothers me, because I think the way they did so was very cruel and immature. But that just makes them horrible people in general, and it's pretty good that they've found each other imo.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, at this point I give them the Johnny-Cash-and-June-Carter exception. Adultery is bad but some people belong together.

I like Camilla-- she seems to be really sweet with kids and animals-- and they seem to make each other happy. I do wonder, if he had realized in the beginning that she is his person, whether there would be less handsome but better adjusted heirs to the throne right now.

Honestly one of the only endearing qualities I think Charles has is one he got directly from his mother: he found The One and was stuck on her forever.

Elizabeth met Philip when she was 13, refused to even entertain the idea of another man, and somehow politely bulldozed her way through her family's suspicions and dislike of him (and his Nazi sisters!!!) because she made up her mind and she got what she wanted. Charles unfortunately had all the romantic feeling but not enough of the steadfastness or force of will or whatever it was his mother did to get her guy.

"The British Royals are Lan" is a thought I did not expect to have today!
