That guy's perm and 'stache... OMG!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a little sad when he got rid of the pornstache.

It was the 1980s! (He doesn't look as good without the stache!)

As a classic car fan, I'm not going to shit on your love for 80's/90's cars, as the only vehicles from that time I like are motorcycles (Hondas and what not). I will say, they ride the line for me between aesthetically egregious and nostalgic/comforting (as I grew up seeing these old models in action -- when's the last time you saw or rode in a roll up window Saturn?).

Good secret, because I find them ugly lol. But enjoy them!(non sarcastic) Shout-out to the SPN fic I wrote featuring a 1987 Toyota Corolla (baby blue with the black stripe, I'm sure you're familiar) to contrast with Dean's 1967 Impala.

I have a love for classic Minis, especially classic Mini Coopers, which includes Minis from the 80s and 90s. Which people most certainly still need spare parts for.

I honestly love 80s and 90s cars. There's something about how they looked that I wish modern cars still had that aesthetic.

The roughness, the jankiness, of some of those cars is part of their charm. Like, they tried their best. C'mon, they tried.

I know fuck all about cars (I don't even drive!), but aesthetically speaking I unironically love 80s and early 90s cars. If I were going to drive, that's the era I'd like my car to be from. I love the casual, trying-but-not-trying-that-hard vibe that so many of them have--particularly the ones that were a bit on the sporty side. I like the kind of boxy quality to them, and how they're kind of basic but still cool. I love the thought of having a car like that as my own, because I feel they have character while not feeling like a flex at all. A car like that is a cool extension of the driver, without upstaging the driver. They just really appeal to my personal aesthetic sensibilities.

I definitely think that from a purely artistic standpoint, some of the cars from earlier eras are a lot more beautiful. But that's not really what I want from a car. I enjoy a bit of design flair in my practical items, but not too much. Make it look a little rough--like the first rough sketch of a good design.

lol

Of all the things I wouldn't keep from the 80s, vehicles rank surprisingly low.

By the way, OP, you wouldn't happen to be fan of Hall & Oates, would you?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I know more about Hall & Oates than I do about cars.

If you travel through the middle of the US, someone will have an '84 Chevette up on blocks that they might be willing to sell you.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
My first car was from that era, although it was 15 years old by the time I inherited it. It had four gears, a choke, no safety features, huge windows, and an absolutely banging sound system. I loved it to death.

If I could have any car from the 80s with modern safety features I would totally want my mom's old Saab 900. Handled like a freakin' butterfly.
