I'm a big believer that politics do not belong in fandom, or the Olympics.

(Try saying that last one and people remembering the two guys who did the Black Power salute. They will jump all over you as a racist before you can say "time and place".)

It's more like....there's no such thing as an apolitical event when you get to decide which countries get to come or host, so "politics don't belong in the olympics" is a fantasy and a delusional one at that lol.

letting the nazis hold the olympics is a political statement ykwim
letting a note white supremacist and Hitler-lover be in charge of your organization is also a political statement, you know.
there are political choices.gif being made here.

yeah, this, there's just no way around the Olympics being political

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to escape from politics, because lord knows it's exhausting, but there's not many places where that actually happens completely. Even small groups can become political depending on who's in charge, as you've given examples of here. It's rarely that simple.

You have a big group of people? There are going to be politics.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
True but in-group politics are a different thing than political-real-world politics

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
The Olympics are explicitly a political arena, to have national prestige and causes settled through sport contests instead of wars, so GTFO if you say that politics do not belong in them. Without the politics, there are no Olympics. You just seem to object that people do not share your politics, which, combined with you jumping over the whole equality campaign, leads me to suspect... Ya racist.
