No one over 15 should call underwear "panties".

[personal profile] hey_hey_hey 2022-10-22 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds silly to me.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhhhh, well if it sounds silly to you, that's a perfectly logical reason why no other adults should use that word.

bb, are you really saying that 15 is the age at which people should stop saying silly-sounding words? that's very idiosyncratic and make me a little sad.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree with the point you're making here, but that "bb" shit is a surefire way to be a total dipshit even when you're points are good.

Feel however you want to feel, anon

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao

Should I just call them undergarments? That's too many words and implies the top half too (especially if I'm only referring to the bottom half). What about pantyhose? I honestly do try to find another word for that one, but stockings (to me) imply the knee or thigh high situations requiring garters, and hosiery...I mean guess? Tights?

Real question, why does it bother you?

[personal profile] hey_hey_hey 2022-10-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds silly to me, just a personal quirk.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Okay... so you don't have to say it, and nobody is forcing you to say it. So stop trying to control what other people call it.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
You should call them "unmentionables."

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

See, that would make me laugh! Lol

I'll give it a try some time!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Or inexpressibles!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm certainly not wearing boxers, dude. They're panties.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
If they're panties, I'll call them panties, you joyless walnut.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
<3 <3 <3

Thank you anon, this reply is perfection.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm gonna be charitable and assume you come from a country where the term is "knickers". Which for American ears at least is a ridiculous word. To each their own.

Do you have a problem with "undies"? Because that's the only other term I can think of besides panties.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you, but I'd even say 10 as the cutoff age.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-22 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If they're panties I call them panties. Where I'm from it's literally just a word that means "women's underwear." It does not read as childish to me even a little. If anything it tends to vaguely suggest some degree of sexual maturity, because it tends to be used to specify women's underwear but is less common in talking about girl's underwear.
